Another Interview w/ CEO Vernon Neilly of Boosweet Records

Dear Mr. Neilly:
My name is Cristian Villacorta, I am the write rof the independent cultural magazine Arteriasde la Ciudad (www.arteriasdelaciudad.blogspot.com). We’re grateful for the opportunity you give us wecan issue a few simple questions: Thank you Cristian is an honor for me to speak to the people here in Argentina through your publication!

1- Why Argentina was chosen to make a next contest Guitar Power?

Because during my last trip to Argentina last year, I became aware of the lack of opportunities for guitar players here in the city of Buenos Aires and Argentina as a whole to have their music go beyond the shores of Argentina, internationally. So I talked with my friend and fellow guitar player Marcelo Roascio who is a well known and respected guitar player and educator here in Argentina and discussed with him the prospect of doing a guitar contest here in Argentina. He informed me that it had never been done before in the history of the music scene here in Argentina, I was shocked at this, but because I have done many contest before in my career, for me it was an easy decision to give a worthy person the chance of recording their music for an internationally distributed label, my label in the USA, Boosweet Records. Marcelo and I then went about the task of putting the contest together and Oct 12, 2011 at the Bauen Auditorium in Buenos Aires, people will see the 10 finalist that were chosen from all over Argentina to compete for the opportunity.

2-What expectationswill cause the next contest?

My expectations are high because the music that was chosen are from talented people here in Argentina who will come to perform their best to have the opportunity to record for a real international record label in the USA. I know that the contestants will prepare to do their best as they should do. The “Guitar Power” has generated a lot of interest here in Argentina because once again, this has never been done before in the history of the music scene here in this country for guitar players, so they have the chance to be a part of music history here in their country!

3-What do you consider when judging a guitarist?

I and the other judges Marcelo Roascio, and Daniel Teles will judge the contestants on performance, sound, composition, stage presence, audience communication, so it is not only about how technically well the players play!

4-What advice can you give young guitarists?

Preperation, Patience, and Perseverance! Believe in yourself and your talent, work hard because the music business is a very difficult business and even more difficult these days, so one has to be focused on their goal to achieve their dreams!

We are looking forward to hearing further from you.
Thank you very much for your time. We are always at your service.

Thank you Cristian it is a true pleasure for me and I look forward to seeing you at “Guitar Power” !

NO GRAVITY CD REVIEW

No Gravity

No Gravity

NO GRAVITY CD REVIEW by Scott Thomas

The title, “No Gravity” comes from the feeling what musicians feel while playing. “The further we know and dominate the rational and mathematical part of the music, the intuitive parts take control of us and really take us to ‘travel’ with the music we’re playing. It’s at this point that the musician wants to hit and connect to the people, but he must achieve this within himself first. For this feeling I have chosen this term: ‘No Gravity’.

Awesome guitar playing, great melodies, in-depth song writing, mega compositions.. Heavy at times yet full of tasteful melodies and catchy lines. Yes, this is a rock record, but there are plenty of local traditional Latin rhythms executed with aggression, fury and utmost passion.

Once again, I have been lucky enough to be turned on to another great guitar virtuoso name Kiko Laureiro and his album NO GRAVITY. From the first song to the last, you’ll hear nothin’ but tasty melodies, catchy lead guitar lines, solid compositions, and refined guitar tone. Kiko can go from Heavy Metal to Contemporary Jazz in the wink of an eye and is very efficient at both acoustically as well as electrically. Furthermore, there are plenty of local traditional Latin, and Brazilian rhythms executed with aggression, fury and utmost passion.

No Gravity is the first solo album of Brazilian Power metal guitarist Kiko Loureiro… He’s frequently voted as one of the most talented guitar players worldwide and Brazilian axeman Kiko Loureiro shows all his versatility and musical expertise on “No Gravity”. The album also relies on the talents of producer Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Angra) and drummer Mike Terrana (Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine). Kiko not only proves he’s a guitar virtuoso, but that he’s definitely a complete musician by also handling percussion, keyboards, piano, bass and acoustic guitars on the album.

…Kiko is one of the best guitar players of today’s rock and metal scene. Are you a fan of mind-blowing instrumental guitar? Do you listen to guitar players that have a variety of styles…? Do you like guitar players w/ blistering speed and technical skills? Then this is the guitar instrumental album for you… Just make sure you’re wearing your lead boots while listening…

BLUES / ROCK

BIG BAD SUN

“Another beautiful cd from Chris Juergensen. This recording has a serious blues vibe. Chris sings and plays his ass off on this one.” Mike Stern

Chris Juergenen’s “Big Bad Sun” CD came to me last week and I’ve been listening to it everyday since. I can’t keep my earz off this fabulous blues album… There is major talent all over the place here. Master Juergensen is also an excellent guitar player with clear dynamic vocals, and he also knows how to present the blues in just the right fashion. His guitar playing is right on the money and the tone he gets from his guitar and amps is second to none.. Yes! Da Man Can Play!!! How do they say… “Take me to the mountain top !!!”

Native New Yorker, long time studio musician and session guitarist Chris Juergensen is in constant demand as a sideman, front man and clinician. He has played sold out venues as intimate as the world famous Blue Note and as large as the Long Beach Auditorium. After teaching guitar for six years at the prestigious Musicians Institute in Los Angeles along side with Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), Scott Henderson and Joe Diorio, Chris left the states to become the Director of Education at Tokyo School of Music in Japan where he resided for fifteen years. He currently divides his time between Tokyo and Los Angeles where he continues to write, record, play and teach. His first solo CD, “Prospects” was critically acclaimed worldwide and his second release,”Big Bad Sun” painted a completely new portrait of him showcasing him as a singer as well as a guitarist. The opening song “Sweet Melissa” was used by Australian filmmaker Sean King in his short film “Regrets.”

Big Bad Sun will be familiar to you on your first listen due to the fact that Chris’s Blues are more in the traditional vibe and at times contemporary in nature. He is a very passionate six-string shooter with a penchant for story telling along w/ with his lead guitar phrasing and modern day productions. You’ll hear everything from Albert King, Johnny Winters, Albert Collins, Omar and the Howlers, The T-Birds, Jimmy Vaughan, Allen Haynes, Chris Duarte, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jeff Beck in his muse.

For his efforts in promoting American art through international music education, Chris was made an honorary citizen of New Orleans by the Mayor of the city, Marc H. Morial in 1995 and more recently was asked to perform on behalf of Japan at the Japanese embassy in Seoul Korea in 2004. Written by Chris, The Infinite Guitar has remained an international best selling instructional book since it was first published in 2006. His newest book, The Empowered Musician was published Summer 2008.

Chris has performed, recorded or done something in one manner or another with such artists as: Falling You, Lincoln Goines (Mike Stern), Richard Hartley and Soul Resurrection, Otmaro Ruiz (John McLaughlin), Albert Wing (Frank Zappa), Toss Panos (Steve Vai, Mike Landau), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big), Keith Wyatt (The Blasters), Ralph Humphrey (Manhattan Transfer, Frank Zappa, Wayne Shorter), Kim Plainfield (Tania Maria, The Pointer Sisters), Jay Dibbs (Vanessa Williams), Steve Bailey (The Rippingtons, Dizzy Gillespie), Jennifer Batten (Jeff Beck, Michael Jackson), Mike Shapiro (Al Jarreau, Sergio Mendes), Jerry Watts (Andy Summers, Billy Idol), Russel Ferante (Joni Mitchell, Yellowjackets), Kevyn Lettau, Hussain Jiffry (Robben Ford, Michael MacDonald, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan), Shawn Harris, The Hideous Sun Demons and Ray Luzier (David Lee Roth, Army of Anyone, Korn).

If you like foot stompin’ music with killer blues vamps, boogie-woogies, rockabilly, a slight touch of swing and a tight sounding band… Then you won’t regret going to Chris’ website and ordering this CD today… Have I let you down yet…? I think not!
